Ivan Cortes, MEd, LPC-Associate
Supervised by Dr. Gregory Scott Sparrow, EdD, LPC-S

Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, I am proud to say that I attended and graduated from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in bilingual education. After a couple of years of serving as a bilingual educator for elementary level students I wished to help others outside of the field of education.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults and guided peer support groups. My fields of practice cover grief & loss, depression, anxiety, anger management and family counseling. I have extensive knowledge and experience in the field of grief, primarily focused on death and loss and the trauma that can come with it. With any trauma or problem often comes anxiety, depression, anger and loss of purpose and as your therapist my hope is to be a guide that walks alongside you to help process various adjustments in life, interpersonal relationships and understanding trauma. My therapeutic approach includes but is not limited to Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), art therapy, person centered therapy, solution focused brief therapy (SFBT), mindfulness and family systems therapy.

I believe that everyone has the power within themselves to make positive and healthy changes to live holistic and fulfilling lives.
