Courtney.Schmidt

I was born in Corpus Christi and raised in a small town south of San Antonio and currently reside in New Braunfels. I have over 15 years of experience as an educator, which has informed my understanding of development, resilience, and the importance of support during periods of transition.

My clinical work is informed by both professional training and lived experience, allowing me to approach counseling with empathy, humility, and respect while maintaining ethical, evidence-informed practice. I believe effective therapy is grounded in collaboration, emotional safety, and client autonomy.

Outside of my professional work, I am a single mother to three older boys and enjoy spending time with family, traveling, dining out, watching films, and attending live performances. These interests help keep me grounded and connected, qualities I bring into my work with clients.

My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, client-centered, and evidence-informed, with an emphasis on emotional safety, collaboration, and client choice. Therapy is collaborative and goal-oriented, with treatment tailored to each client’s needs, strengths, and values.

I incorporate elements of the following approaches into my work:
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Person-Centered Therapy
  • Mindfulness-based practices
  • Trauma-informed care
